How to use the Password Generator

Choose a length with the slider, tick the character types you want, and the tool creates a random password instantly. Press Generate for a new one and Copy to put it on your clipboard. Passwords are generated in your browser using the Web Crypto API, a cryptographically secure random source, and are never sent or stored by freetoolza.

What makes a password strong?

Length: longer passwords are much harder to guess. 14 to 16 characters is a sensible minimum for important accounts.
Randomness: avoid names, dates and common words. Random characters resist guessing attacks.
Uniqueness: use a different password for every account so one leak does not expose the others.

Understanding the strength meter

The meter estimates "bits of randomness" from the length and size of the character pool. For example, 16 characters drawn from about 90 symbols give roughly 100 bits. It is a rough guide for random passwords only and does not account for how a website stores or limits passwords.

Tips for using generated passwords

Store them in a reputable password manager rather than a note or spreadsheet.
Turn on two-factor authentication wherever it is offered.
If a site rejects certain symbols, untick "Symbols" and increase the length.
Enable "Avoid look-alike characters" if you may need to type the password by hand.

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to use a website to generate passwords?
This tool runs locally and does not transmit the password, but you should still treat any online generator with care. You can also disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it will keep working.

Can you see my password?
No. It never leaves your browser.

Why do some passwords not include every type I ticked?
The generator includes at least one of each selected type, as long as the length allows.

Limitations
