Image Resizer
How to use the Image Resizer
Choose an image, then enter the width and height you want in pixels. With “Keep aspect ratio” ticked, changing one value updates the other so the picture is not stretched. You can also use the shortcut buttons to scale to 25%, 50% or 200% of the original. Click Resize to preview the result and Download to save it. Resizing happens in your browser and the image is not uploaded.
Aspect ratio explained
The aspect ratio is the relationship between width and height. A 4000 x 3000 photo has a 4:3 ratio. If you set the width to 1000 with the ratio locked, the height becomes 750. Untick the box only if you want to deliberately stretch or squash the picture to fit exact dimensions.
Common sizes
- Website content images: about 1200 to 1600 pixels wide
- Email or chat attachments: 800 to 1200 pixels wide
- Profile pictures: often 400 x 400 or larger squares, depending on the platform
- Thumbnails and icons: 100 to 300 pixels
Always check the current size requirements of the site or platform you are uploading to, since they change.
Frequently asked questions
Will making an image larger improve quality?
No. Enlarging adds pixels by estimation, so images look softer. Resize down whenever possible.
Is my image uploaded?
No. Processing uses your browser’s canvas.
Does it crop?
No. It only scales the whole image. Use an editor to crop.
