Image Compressor & Converter
How to use the Image Compressor & Converter
Choose an image from your device, pick an output format and quality, then click Compress / Convert. The tool shows the new size compared with the original and a preview, and a Download button saves the result. Your image is processed with your browser’s canvas feature and is never uploaded to a server.
Choosing a format and quality
- JPEG: best for photographs. Lower quality gives smaller files. Transparent areas become white.
- WebP: usually smaller than JPEG at similar quality and supports transparency, but some older software cannot open it.
- PNG: lossless and supports transparency, ideal for logos and screenshots, though files are often larger. The quality slider does not apply to PNG.
A quality of 70 to 80 percent usually gives a big size reduction with little visible difference. Start there and lower it until you notice changes.
Example
A 3 MB photo saved as JPEG at 75% quality often becomes a few hundred kilobytes, which is faster to upload, email or load on a web page.
Common uses
- Meeting upload size limits on forms and websites
- Speeding up web pages and blog posts
- Converting PNG screenshots to JPEG or WebP
- Preparing images for email
Frequently asked questions
Is my image uploaded?
No. It stays in your browser.
Why is the new file larger?
Converting an already compressed JPEG to PNG, or using a very high quality, can increase size. Try JPEG or WebP at a lower quality.
Is metadata kept?
No. Camera details and location data (EXIF) are not copied into the new file, which can also help privacy.
Are animated GIFs supported?
Only the first frame is converted.
Limitations
Very large images may be slow or fail on devices with limited memory. Compression of JPEG and WebP is lossy, so keep your original. Browser support for WebP output varies.
